Long-running ladies club in Frinton forced to fold

A LONG-RUNNING ladies club has been forced to close due to a dwindling membership.

Frinton-based Soken House Ladies Club decided to call it a day in September due to a lack of committee members.

It had been running for more than 20 years, and some of the original members were still attending.

Chairman Pamela Wood said: “Eventually we were down to two members on the committee and we couldn’t get anybody else to commit to helping.

“We appealed for new members for several months but the interest just wasn’t there unfortunately.

“The younger retired people in the area are not keen on joining so the club has been dying out.

“We did a lot of things together as a club. We had guest speakers and lunches, and were a big part of the community.

“I’m very sad to see it go. It is a real shame, especially after so long.

“Other groups like ours have had to fold as well, like the Walton Women’s Institute.

“It’s not just in our area, but all over the place. It is a very sad trend at the moment.”
