12:00pm Friday 5th October 2012 in News
TENDRING’S older residents were taught how to deal with rogue traders at their door and given a variety of safety advice at a special event.
More than 150 people attended the ‘crucial crew’ event which was launched in Clacton on Monday.
Representatives Essex Fire, Trading Standards, Essex police and Tendring Council all attended to pass on hints and tips to visitors.
Potential dangers were highlighted and lessons included teaching residents to prevent their details falling into the wrong hands.
Tendring Council cabinet spokesman Stephen Mayzes said: “There have been crucial crew events for primary school children in Tendring for many years but this was the first one to target older residents.
“They were given important advice on a wide range of issues such as emergency planning for floods, cold weather, hot weather; fire safety, personal safety, rogue traders, what to do with callers at the door and much more.
“The day was National Older Persons’ Day and it was the perfect way to mark it here in Tendring.”
The session took place a Clacton’s Princes Theatre.
Organisers are hoping to make the event a regular feature in Tendring.
