YOUNGSTERS triumphed in a scarecrow competition after creating the Paralympic-themed Oscar Pi‘straw’rius.

Children from Walton Pre-school took part in the contest organised for youngsters across the area by Parkers Garden Centre in Frinton.

They created Oscar Pi‘straw’rius after Paralympic blade runner Oscar Pistorius, plastering silver foil over hockey sticks to make his blades and hanging medals around his neck.

Jackie Pobjoy from the pre-school said: “The children helped to build and dress the scarecrow in Olympic colours.

“Our theme for this term is harvest, so this fitted in well and became a good learning experience.”

Staff and children from Walton pre-school attended a presentation where their creation was crowned as the top entry.
