Man jailed for mini cannabis factory

A MAN has been jailed after police found a small cannabis growing operation in Jaywick.

A court heard officers armed with a search warrant found 20 plants growing in the shed of a house in Riley Avenue on April 19 this year.

Darren Collins later told police he was growing the drug for his own use.

The 42-year-old, of Empire Court, Clacton, admitted charges of growing cannabis and possessing the drug when he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court.

He was jailed for eight months but received another two months consecutive as he was in breach of a prison sentence for assault.

Evelyn Hicks, mitigating, said it was not a sophisticated cannabis factory but simply to provide cannabis for Collins' own use.
