Work starts on new Jaywick play area
2:50pm Tuesday 25th September 2012 in News
WORK has started on a new £50,000 play area designed to boost Jaywick.
Jaywick Community Forum was presented with land off Lotus Way by a trust more about three years ago.
Members secured £53,000 in grant money to create a natural play area at the site.
They have also been fundraising, and will use the extra cash to form an orchard next to the play area.
Forum secretary Gill Elkins said: “The plot is just empty space at the moment and it will be good to put it to a good use.
“It is all for the community to enjoy and both the play area and the orchard will be open to everybody.”
The forum members are also looking for volunteers to come forward and help plant trees and bulbs at the orchard on October 15.
Volunteers can email forum-jaywick@sky.com or call or 01255 221049 for more information, or just turn up on the day.
The play area is due to be completed on October 26, and Jaywick Community Forum has organised an official opening event for the play area and orchard on November 2.
