Rugby match to raise money for PC Dibell memorial fund

A MEMORIAL rugby match will take place in Clacton next month to raise funds in memory of murdered off-duty police officer Ian Dibell.

PC Dibell was shot close to his home in Redbridge Road while intervening as gunman Peter Reeve shot at his neighbours on July 9.

The match will feature players from the Clacton and Colchester police rugby team pitting their skills against the Essex Police force rugby team.

Sgt Simon Tattersall, from Clacton police station, said: "We’re hoping lots of people will turn up to cheer on the teams.

“There’ll be a raffle and several fund raising events sponsored by the local community.

“All the funds raised will go to the Pc Ian Dibell memorial fund.”

A trophy will be presented to the winning team.

The match will take place at Clacton Rugby Club, off Valley Road, at 3pm on October 3. Tickets for the event cost £5.
