Clacton MP to present anti-Euro bill to Parliament

DOUGLAS Carswell will attempt to present his bill calling for the UK to pull out of Europe to Parliament on Friday.

The Tory MP was one of 20 MPs selected by ballot to put forward a Private Member’s Bill earlier this year.

Mr Carswell asked people to vote for one of five ideas for the bill online.
The winner was the European Communities Act Repeal Bill.

If it is successful, it means the UK would pull out of the European Union, but Mr Carswell admits the bill stands no chance against Government whips.

The second reading of the bill is due to take place on Friday.

He said: “I am going to pursue this, but realise the Government machine and the whips will squash it.

“Even if I’m denied the opportunity to speak, people will be able to hear about the argument on the internet – the important thing is that the issue is out there.”

Mr Carswell highlights the future importance of so-called iDemocracy in his new book - ‘The End of Politics and the Birth of iDemocracy’ - which is out next month.
