A COMMUNITY centre has been revamped after being given a £25,000 grant to boost the building.
Vital improvements have been made to Walton Community Centre after it was given the grant from Essex County Council’s big society fund.
The centre is used by Walton pre-school and a ‘Simply the best’ – a group for youngsters learning difficulties - but had been left to fall into disrepair.
Improvements were masterminded by a committee made up of Walton residents and representatives from the pre-school.
The community centre has now been re-opened after work was finished. Its roof has been re-tiled, the kitchen and toilets were refurbished and the interior redecorated.
Essex County Council chairman Kay Twitchen said: “It is fantastic to see the tremendous work which has gone into such a valuable community project.
“It is projects like this which make me feel proud and I am pleased to be able to support such good work and look forward to seeing even more activity at Walton Community Centre in the future.”
The community centre committee is now looking to get more people using the building, and are working with schools, churches and youth groups.
