Cops take break from crime-fighting ... to help deliver baby

PROUD parents have thanked officers who helped deliver a baby on the beat in Brightlingsea.

Dad Ramon Hayward, 24, flagged down the officers, who had been dealing with a fight at a block of flats, to tell them his 20-year-old partner Chelsea Nolan was about to give birth in a communal flat hallway, off Victoria Place.

The paramedics had not arrived and it was clear little baby Annie was not going to wait so PC David Wren stepped in and delivered her himself - helped by PC Kirsy Lucas and Sgt Simon Tattersall.

The parents were then whisked off to hospital by ambulance with their beautiful baby girl.

PC Wren, 44, said: “After nearly ten years in the job, this is the first time I’ve delivered a baby on duty.

“It was a fabulous experience being the first to hold the baby as I passed her to mum who was amazing throughout the whole incident."

Ramon and Chelsea are now looking after their bundle of joy at home.

They said: “We’re extremely proud of Annie and are extremely grateful to these officers who are our new best friends.

“We’re not sure what we would have done without them.”
