Unemployment falls for sixth month running

DOLE queues in Tendring have got shorter for the sixth month in a row.
Latest figures show there were 3,209 people claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance last month, down from 3,287 in July.
The Office for National Statistics said there were 265 fewer unemployed people in the Tendring district compared to last August.
Vacancies in the district’s Jobcentres have also risen to 610. There are now almost five people chasing each job.
More than nine per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds are also claiming benefits, compared to a regional figure of just 6.4 per cent.
The statistics show 3.8 per cent of Tendring’s working-age population is now on benefits – in line with the national average.
In Colchester, just 2.7 per cent – 3,299 people – are out of work.
