Search is on to find top sports talent in Tendring

THE search is on to find Tendring’s top sporting stars and talent for 2012.

The Tendring Sports Personality Awards - which are given out to individuals, teams, coaches and volunteers – are set to take place at Clacton Town Hall in November.

The event, now in its eighth year, includes four categories with 16 trophies up for grabs.

It is organised by Tendring Council, activetendring and the Colne School Sports Partnership and is again being sponsored by the Clacton, Frinton and Walton Gazette and the Harwich and Manningtree Standard.

Stephen Mayzes, the council’s cabinet member for tourism and community life, said: “We want the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to live on in our district and these awards encourage our sports men and women to aim high and achieve the best they possibly can.

“Who knows, in Rio 2016 someone who picks up an honour in November could well be competing for Great Britain at the highest possible level?

“There’s also new talent yet to be uncovered and these awards continue to encourage people to take up and enjoy sporting activities.”

The closing date for nominations is October 12 for which forms can be found at www.tendringdc.gov.uk.
