Job cuts cost police £6.7m in pay-outs

ESSEX Police spent £6.7million on redundancies during the past two years - and that figure could be dwarfed by the final total.
The force is having to find £42million of year-on-year savings and with most of the budget spent on staff it is employees who will bear the brunt of the cuts.
Draft accounts revealed the police spent £6,783,762 on redundancies over the last two years.
The total includes one six-figure pay off.
Last year 265 employees shared a redundancy pot of almost £5million.
The Essex Police blueprint outlined plans to cut 1,100 posts including reducing the number of officers by 400.
This, and other measures such as closing stations, will only cut annual costs by £16million so more cuts and additional pay-outs are expected.
