Colchester United youth players involved in A12 crash

COLCHESTER United players were rushed to hospital following a horror smash on the A12.
 

Two people were trapped and had to be cut free and a woman was airlifted to hospital after the cars collided on the northbound carriageway by the Marks Tey slip road.
 

Police are appealing for information following the crash which left four requiring hospital treatment.
 

U-18 youth star Jack Simmons was driving back from training with fellow youth team players Billy Roast and Toby Blanche when their red Renault Clio collided with a white Ford Fiesta at about 4.30pm yesterday.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene and were joined later by the air ambulance.
 

Two lanes of the A12 had to be shut while fire crews freed two people.
 

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
