Memorial garden opens in tribute to 'lovely lady'
10:30am Friday 7th September 2012 in News
JAYWICK residents have set up a memorial garden after a popular member of their community died.
A group of residents have created Rene’s Rest in memory of Rene Tully, who lived in the area.
They transformed a plot of land on Meadow Way into a peaceful green space for mourners.
One of the project organisers, Bill Dyer, said: “It was inspired by Rene, but it will be open all the time for anyone who loses a loved one.
“We wanted to do something special for her, because she left a lasting impression with a lot of people.
“She used to walk around the neighbourhood with her dogs and speak to everybody.
“We were always joking and laughing. We would sit down at the park, and she would do the same with a lot of people.
“People enjoyed seeing her. She was a lovely lady.”
Businesses donated money, equipment, plants and flowers to boost the project.
Commemorative plaques paying tribute to loved ones can be added to a plinth at one end of the garden.
A dance has been arranged this Saturday to boost funds for the upkeep of the garden. Tickets are available on the door for the event at Golf Green Hall, Jaywick, which runs from 7.30-11.30pm.
