A MAN and his girlfriend are due to be sentenced later this week following the brutal killing of a Clacton man on New Year’s Day.

Oli Smith-Daye, 29, was attacked in Trimley Close shortly before 4.30am on January 1 this year.

He died from his injuries at Colchester General Hospital later that day.

A post-mortem examination showed the 29-year-old, of West Avenue, Clacton, died from head injuries.

Following a three-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, 22-year-old unemployed Charlie Jacobs, of Trimley Close, was found guilty of murder while his 21-year-old unemployed girlfriend Elisha Francois, of the same address, was convicted of manslaughter.

They are due to be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court tomorrow.

So if they are found guilty how long will they get inside? 5 years or less? - for someone's life????

5 years or 10 years, it's still a "butlins holiday camp", with ps3's, plasma screens, drugs, phones.....why not have proper prisons like the ones abroad, you know, the prisons that actually lock you up, and treat you like "criminals", and a deterrent to stop re offending...It's good that they have been found out as lieing, deceitful murderers, but any sentence will be EASY time for them...this govm't needs to grow some and get rid of prisoners rights, and make these "hotels" proper and harsh...

Deterrent is definitely needed. Jacobs was out on licence anyway, and one of the licence conditions was that he was not allowed to be where he was on that night. The police had already been called to another incident involving Jacobs and Francois that night! Our justice system needs to be strengthened - if it was stronger, Oliver might still be with us.
