Bus pass shake-up to save £900k
8:12am Thursday 6th September 2012 in News
BUS pass holders will see a new centralised system running the scheme from next month.
Essex County Council takes over the running of the scheme for elderly and disabled residents from October 1.
The move to a central system, instead of each district council overseeing its own area, will save an estimated £900,000 over two and a half years.
County Hall highways boss Derrick Louis said: “We’ve been working closely with district and borough councils to ensure a centralised system will deliver an improved and consistent service across the county, as well as providing customers with more support to complete applications.”
To apply for a bus pass, download an application from canigetapass.org.uk or call 0845 200 0388.
Current pass holders due for renewal will be automatically sent replacements, but if they have moved since their current one was issued they should contact the council at buspass.team@essex.gov.uk or call 0845 200 0388.
