Disabled football project takes off in Clacton
11:00am Thursday 6th September 2012 in News
A DISABLED football team set up to boost players with learning difficulties played its first 11-a-side game.
The disabled side was put together as part of a Healthy 4 Life project organised by Anglian Community Enterprise.
They train once a week, and played in their first ever match against Clacton United under-18s at the weekend, eventually losing out 6-4 to the youth side.
But coach Dave Sneddon was proud of his side’s efforts.
He said: “The whole point of this is to give people with learning disabilities the confidence to take part in this sort of match.
“It helps them feel good about themselves and they all loved taking part in the game."
Mr Sneddon said he hoped the Paralympics, currently taking place in London, would boost interest in sports teams around the country for people with disabilities.
