Big day sparkles for diamond couple

A COUPLE from Clacton are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.

Jim and Beat Dawson, of Harman Walk, Clacton, married at St Peter’s Church in Edmonton, London, on September 6, 1952.

The couple, who are both 82, met because their parents were friends and moved to Tottenham after getting married.

Bill joined the Army in 1948 and served as a mental health nurse in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Southampton, before working in the tool room for Matchbox toys.

Beat was a housewife for most of her working life but then worked as a dinner lady at schools in London.

“I think we have lasted so long together as we both have a sense of humour,” said Bill.

“We moved to Clacton 18 years ago as we used to holiday here and decided it was too noisy for us in London."

The couple enjoy ten-pin bowling at Walton Pier and have a son, Perry, and two grandchildren.
