Clacton Coastal Academy's summer opening to boost tourism

CLACTON Coastal Academy opened its facilities to campers in a bid to boost tourism.

Holidaymakers from the caravan and camping association were invited to use the school field at its coast campus in Jaywick Lane.

It was planned to coincide with Clacton carnival and the air show to boost attendances.

Assistant vice-principal Nadine McFadden said: “We are delighted to be able to attract visitors to enjoy the local area by extending the use of our fabulous facilities outside term time.

“Many visitors came last year when we started this and returned again this year.

“I think this does so much to help promote Clacton.”

The scheme was started last year, when the Gazette was bombarded with calls from worried locals who thought travellers had moved onto the site.

It was criticised by Tendring councillor Stephen Mayzes as a money-grabbing venture at the time.

But this year the council has been more involved, and chairman Danny Mayzes helped welcome the holidaymakers to the site.

Money Grabbing, surely a pot and kettle situation

Given Stephen Mayzes recent interactions with travellers, I hardly think he is in a position to criticise anyone.
