£13,000 grant for homelessness project in Clacton
12:00pm Saturday 1st September 2012 in News By Dave Lambert
A CHURCH has been handed a massive grant to boost a project helping the homeless in Clacton.
Pier Avenue Baptist Church opens its doors to homeless and disadvantaged people every Thursday as part of its Enfold scheme, launched earlier this year.
It offers visitors a shower, breakfast and support from nurses and other community groups.
The church has now been handed a £13,400 grant by the Lloyds TSB Foundation to continue and expand its services.
Church bosses intend to put the cash towards introducing computer training and a financial advice centre.
Enfold project leader Duncan Wood said: “This grant has made a dream become reality, so that we can expand our help to our community much sooner than if we had to rely on our own resources.
“It’s fantastic being able to work closely with other groups at Enfold and I think we are making a real difference.
“As we expand we hope to include members of the other churches across Clacton as part of our team.”
