TWO teachers from Tendring Technology College wowed judges to clinch regional awards.

Daniel Westaway and Lindsay Elliott were both given regional gongs as part of this year’s Teaching Awards competition.

Product design teacher Lindsay was named Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School for the east, while IT teacher Daniel triumphed in the Outstanding Use of Technology in Education category.

They were nominated for the awards by pupils, parents and fellow staff.

Teaching Awards judges visited the school to watch the educators in action and talk to pupils before they made a decision.

Judges said Lindsay Elliott demonstrated "flair, passion and enthusiasm" to inspire and motivate her pupils.

She said: “It came as a complete shock, but I was overwhelmingly proud, and just felt humbled.

“The national award ceremony is in October. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Mr Westaway was described by judges as having a wonderful style and confidence in the classroom.

The duo will compete against the other regional winners in their categories later in the year at the national teaching awards ceremony.

Elissa Moore from Tendring Technology College also received a commendation in the award for Outstanding New Teacher, but just lost out on the regional award.
