Village celebrates debut in award finals

ALRESFORD has reached the Village of the Year competition finals for the first time in its history.

Judges will visit the village later this month to see if it can clinch the prestigious title.

Parish council chairman Ernie Osborne said: “I am very pleased they have recognised us and we have been given this opportunity.

“We have been applying for the title for a number of years now but have never got any further than that.”

He added: “I am biased as I have lived here more than 40 years, but when people come to live here they want to stay, and when they do go away they tend to come back again.

“Community spirit thrives here. It comes down to people and that’s where Alresford scores.”
