Pupils to hold their own Olympic torch relay

SCHOOLCHILDREN will hold their own Olympic-themed torch relay.

Youngsters at Tendring Technology College will run with the specially created torch between the school’s Frinton campus and Thorpe campus.

Twelve student runners have been picked to carry the torch.

Teacher Rob Rouse, who has arranged the event said: “Because the actual torch isn’t coming to this area, we thought it would be nice for the school to do something.

“The students will be running with our torch from Frinton to Thorpe with a police escort, and they are really looking forward to it.

“We are hoping create something special to get the children involved and excited about the Olympics."

The first runner will take to the streets at 9am on Monday June 25.

It will be carried from Rochford Way, along Elm Tree Avenue and left through Kirby-le-Soken.

Students will take the back road to Thorpe, running along Walton Road before turning left onto Landermere Road.

The relay will also mark the launch of National School Sports Week activities at Tendring Technology College.
