MOTORISTS were caught in delays after a trailer containing two cows and a bull overturned on the A12.
Emergency services were called to the A12 between Marks Tey and Kelvedon at about 5.10pm on Sunday.
Essex Police said the single-vehicle incident involved a 4x4, which was left on its side, blocking one lane of the London-bound carriageway.
Fire crews from Colchester and Witham, as well as the service’s animal rescue unit, were called to the scene.
A spokesman for the fire service added that none of animals were hurt during the incident.
He said: "They were tethered in the trailer and crews kept them there until another animal trailer arrived."
They were transferred to a rescue trailer by 7pm and the road was re-opened by 7.45pm.
It is not thought the driver was injured during the incident.
Motorists were caught in four miles queues and faced delays of an hour and 20 minutes.
