THEATRE student Charlie Smith has been in the spotlight and behind it at Clacton’s West Cliff Theatre and now he is setting his sights firmly on the West End.
He has used nine years of valuable experience at the resort’s small theatre to get work behind the scenes in London box office hits Chicago, Billy Elliot and the Wizard of Oz.
Nineteen-year-old Charlie whose family home is in North Road, Great Clacton, is a second year student at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
But he is balancing his technical theatre arts course with work on two West End shows.
He is currently “dep” on sound in Billy Elliott and Chicago and believes he is one of the youngest number twos in the West End.
“It is just wonderful work experince for me. I am having a fabulous time. Billy Elliott is fantastic as I get to work with all the children and its a really big show and Chicago is a little bit more intimate.”
