Gig night bid to save bar

A FUNDRAISING gig is being held to save a struggling bar.

Ronnie’s Bar on Old Road, Clacton, is in danger of closing.

A musical extravaganza night has been organised to raise funds for the bar, with the musicians agreeing to play for free.

Owner Linda Lockert-Smith has appealed for customers to support the venue.

She said: “Seeing it struggle is heartbreaking.

“Ronnie’s Bar is not like any other bar in Clacton. It is really unique.

“It provides a stage for a lot of young musicians and I think it is very important in that respect.

“It has been a huge headache but I have never given up. I have put everything I have into the bar and I am determined to keep it going.”

The musical extravaganza will take place from 7pm on Sunday.

Live music bars are decidedly lacking in Clacton, so when Ronnies Bar opened it was great to see a number of live acts back in the town. I think the problem could be that the management are very choosy about who they allow in, and although I agree they want to keep out the trouble makers, it doesn't always feel very welcoming in there for newcomers.

This Pub has great potential the only problem is the lack of management skills

This place. Ever has a night where drinks haven't run out and that's not because so much is sold but because nothing is

Carried on from last post...
No drink is there in the first place.

My only concern with this fundraiser is where will the money actually go and what's to stop it not being in the same situation next month. It will be a shame as i love the music here but with out a serious change in the way this place is managed I just don't know how it will work.

ronnies started out with good intentions, but as we read, its just not been accepted as is.

perhaps a change of management, and direction could pull it back in the right direction.

its a shame to read of its struggling, but you have to provide a service that the customers want for it to fill the bank balance.
Management definitely needs some attention. Their idea of a nightclub with a Jazzy atmosphere is something you may get once in a long while but sadly lacking.

The place is not only very choosy about clientele - it totally lacks in vision where it concerns the acts that it actually DOESN'T book! No sour grapes here - just fact that wherever we've played, we've brought the roof down. Ronnies doesn't even want to consider booking if your face don't fit! Shame as with the exception if management - the place holds so much promise for real classy artistes. Will see how things pan out.
