WORK has started demolishing a landmark building on Clacton seafront.
The 103-year-old St Michael's Convent in Marine Parade East is currently being bulldozed.
The United Sisters of Mercy have built a new convent, chapel and care home behind the historic building.
It has spaces for for 30 residents and staff and is already open.
Demolition work on the old convent - which was founded in 1908 - is expected to be completed in February before the area is landscaped.
St Michael’s was founded by three Sisters of Mercy, who came to Clacton from London to set up a Roman Catholic convalescent home for women and provide care for sick children with infantile paralysis.
