A SCALED-DOWN model of a Walton war hero has been created to help generate funding for a full-size statue in the town.
Private Herbert Columbine died in the First World War after staying at his post to keep enemies at bay while his fellow soldiers escaped, and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross medal for his bravery.
Celebrated sculptor John Doubleday has created a bronze model of the statue to show to possible investors and generate cash for the full-sized version.
Chairman of the Herbert Columbine Fund, John Thorpe, said: “The model is fantastic, and really captures the man.
“We hope it will inspire interest in our project and keep money coming in.”
Anyone interested in donating to the cause can call 01255 677088.
