ONCE again, we are having to endure the “fallout” from the disposal of munitions at Shoeburyness. For 30 years this has been going on, causing distress to many people.
It can be really frightening if you are inside a building. First you hear the loud booming sound, and then the rumbling, and then you know the vibration of the building and rattling of doors and windows will soon follow soon. I imagine it feels like being in an earthquake.
In your article last week, all the people at QinetiQ seem to be concerned about is the noise, measuring it in decibels. What they should really be doing is measuring the vibrations and underground shocks on the Richter Scale. Then they would understand what we are all complaining about.
I know the work has to be done. At one time they were going to move the whole operation to Scotland – I wish they had.
