CLACTON underwent a mock image re-brand as part of an Apprentice-style project by students from London.

Travel and tourism students from Barking and Dagenham College spent the day in town conducting market research and trying out the activities on offer, to see how Clacton could be better promoted.

They were recreating a task from the hit TV show The Apprentice where contestants had to re-brand Margate.

Back in the classroom the 25 students came up with various marketing slogans for Clacton, including “Swap the city for the sea”, “Clacton’s Classic” and “Leave the stress for the rest”.

One of their favourites was “You’re never to old to have fun”.

Kate Howes, lecturer on the module, said: “It was good on many levels, such as interviewing people and having that interaction, and analysing the results.

“To go to somewhere not as tourists themselves but looking at what could be done, from a professional viewpoint, was very helpful.

“It’s great to get students out of the classroom and putting theory into practice.”

The project will add to their coursework for a marketing module. and will be assessed as part of their level three BTEC diploma.
