Blitz veteran dies, aged 92

TRIBUTES have been paid to a survivor of the London Blitz who has died, aged 92.

Eileen Polley moved to Little Holland nursing home after suffering a severe stroke just before her 90th birthday.

She featured in the Gazette two years ago after grandaughter Kim Hayes dedicated a book of poetry to her.

It contained a poem specially written for Kim’s grandmother.

Mrs Polley had lived in Maldon Road, Margaretting, for almost 60 years, until her stroke.

She died of pneumonia on Easter Monday and leaves two sons, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Kim said: "I asked for Misty by Johnny Mathis to be played at her funeral as that was her favourite song.

"Later it was discovered in a handwritten will that she had also requested that song be played.

"That's how much my grandmother and I are alike."

A funeral service will be held at Weeley Crematorium this Friday at 10.15am.
