THE FIRST ever pier-to-pier walk in aid of St Helena Hospice has been hailed a success by organisers.
People of all ages pulled on their walking boots for the seven mile walk from Clacton to Walton with many walking back again.
Around 550 people registered to take part in the seafront challenge on Sunday, leaving Clacton pier at 10am.
A team from the Clacton Gazette took part with reporters Dave Lambert and Will Lodge doing the 14 mile route three-legged.
Kate Alden, corporate events manager for St Helena Hospice, said: “It’s gone excellently.
“We had to turn people away because there were so many entrants. It was a shame but we had to make sure it was safe and enjoyable as it was our first event.
Entrance to the event was free but sponsorship money raised by participants is expected to be in excess of £5000.
