RESIDENTS are furious that new fences along a railway line will spoil their scenic views.

Network Rail have informed people living alongside the train track running from Thorpe to Frinton that they plan to secure it with new fences.

The rail company said it hopes to increase safety with the new 1.8 metre high chain-link fence.

But the plans have not gone down well with residents.

Shirley Emerton's bungalow on Sycamore Way, Kirby Cross, backs onto the train track, and she is worried that it will ruin her garden.

She said: “I got a letter through my door saying that they are going to put this great big fence up, and I am absolutely fuming.

“The railway line comes right up to my garden fence and it is going to be like living in a prison yard."

However railway officials said it must be made safer.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “The existing fencing at this location consists of loosely strung wires between fence posts.

“This type of fencing fails to meet our safety requirements and is clearly not a suitable border between residential properties and the railway. "
