TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular teacher from Thorpe who died following a suspected heart attack.
Iain McAteer, of Tendring Road, passed away suddenly at his home on July 21.
He was an ICT teacher at Tendring Technology College's Thorpe campus.
More than 840 people have joined a webpage set up in memory of Mr McAteer on social networking website Facebook and more than 100 people have left tributes.
Charles McAteer, speaking on behalf of the family, wrote: “We are very touched by all the comments - it's so comforting to know that Iain touched so many lives.
“Iain died unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Wednesday afternoon from what we believe to be a heart attack.”
One student, Marni Andrews said she was shocked when she heard the news and that she had enjoyed one of his lessons the day before he passed away.
“He was really happy and well, as we were breaking up for summer,” she said.
“He was such a good teacher which made ICT one of my favourite lessons.
College principal Caroline Haynes said on the school's website: “Our thoughts and sympathy go to his wife and family.”
