CCTV cameras to come to Jaywick

CCTV cameras are set to be erected in a resort centre in a bid to cut crime.

Police are hoping to put up a ten-metre pole with two CCTV cameras on land adjacent to Brooklands Gardens in Jaywick.

The Brooklands area of Jaywick has high crime levels, particularly in terms of violent crime, criminal damage and burglaries, with 11 per cent of all burglaries in Tendring last year.

Crime reduction bosses hope they can cut down those numbers by keeping a closer eye on the area's alleyways, which they believe are key to tackling the issues.

Inspector Jason Scrivener at Essex Police said: "From our point of view, the cameras are an excellent bit of kit that's going to be an added tool in our arsenal.

“They will give us another way to deal with incidents as they arise and will also help us police the dispersal order which is currently in effect in the area.

“They are a good deterrent and are a long-term solution to combat anti-social behaviour, violent crime and burglary."

He said police would look to install the cameras “as soon as possible” after the planning application was approved.

The police in the past seem to shy away from Jaywick ( esp the Brooklands ) area, of course we all know the majority of drug users and pushers come from there, maybe they are getting a backhander, who knows.. stay happy and remember we never know who's maybe working for the NEWS OF THE WORLD ! undercover of course

I can't help wondering, are these cameras in addition to the ones all ready there or to replace them?
