'UFOs' spotted over Jaywick

A UFO sceptic says he's changed his mind after seeing bright lights in the sky over Jaywick.

John Tarrier was speechless after spotting three unidentified flying objects in the sky on Wednesday night.

The retired plasterer was at home in Meadow Way when he noticed the strange objects just after 10pm.

"They were like a V-shape," said Mr Tarrier.

"It was unbelievable. They stopped dead still and then started moving again and went towards St Osyth.

"I watched them until they were little dots in the sky."

He says the UFOs were amber coloured - "like a lightbulb".

"Their lights weren't going on and off like a plane's do - they were pulsating," said Mr Tarrier.

"I'm 60 and I've never seen anything like it before in my life.

"I don't drink or smoke and the sky was as clear as a bell."

The craze for Chinese lanterns at parties has sparked an increase in "sightings" as they float into the nightsky.

But Mr Tarrier is convinced his UFOs have a more out-of-this-world explanation.

"They definitely weren't planes or anything like that," he said.

"I just wondered if other people saw anything.

"I'm still a bit shaky about it. I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about it all night."

"I didn't believe in UFOs before but I do now!"

Police said no other sightings had been reported at around the same time.

Funny how people so readily discount the most likely explanations and that is that these were probably just Chinese lanterns. I have seen loads over Clacton over the last few years. I have to admit the firsttime I saw one I was abit baffled by the way they seemed to hang in the air and move on.

Isn't in cool, when you finally get it? That we are not, nor have we ever been, alone! You can pretty much discount, anything and everything about science and religion you were ever taught, as a child, because in their mind "Don't tell em the truth, cuz they can't handle the truth."

I too saw these lights over Clacton and doubt very much if they were Chinese lanterns. I saw four bright orange lights in all following each other, and after much thought about it later that night and hearing a thunderstorm in the distance, concluded that it could have been some electrical anomaly.

My husband and I also saw what very much looked like a UFO, at first thinking it could be a supernova (although the wrong colour). It was not an aeroplane, chinese lantern or anything like - and glowed with a very large diffused deep amber coloured light that slowly pulsed. It was stationary when we saw it, and my husband ran to get binoculars and our camera. Unfortunately, cloud covered the oject before we got a picture. We live in Clacton and the oject was toward the coast in South West direction - probably in the Jaywick direction, as another person mentioned above. It certaintly was one of those moments when you think that nothing rationally could explain what you've seen! So perhaps it was a UFO!

It would have been great if you all reported the sighting like John did to the gazette as there was more wittnesses in cases like these

My mother (bless her) has just told me that while out walking the dog she too saw a "UFO". This was in 1974 when she lived in Clacton. She went on to say that "perhaps UFO's choose Clacton because that's where they like to take their holidays!!"
