Thumb bite wife back in court

A HOUSEWIFE, who bit off the tip of her husband's thumb and flushed it down the toilet in a drink-fuelled rage, has breached her suspended sentence.

On Monday, Dawn Allum, 50, admitted missing three appointments with the probation service between December 23, 2009, and January 4, 2010.

Allum received 12 months in jail suspended for two years last June for causing grievous bodily harm to her husband, Malcolm, a Clacton businessman.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard she had missed her probation appointments because she had been affected by the break-up of their marriage in early December.

Judge Christopher Ball QC ordered Allum, now of Beaconsfield Road, Clacton, to carry out another 30 hours unpaid work.

He said: "You have to get to grips with your particular demons."
