PART of Clacton's seaside promenade has been ruled off-limits after huge cracks appeared in a wall.
A 50ft-long exclusion zone has been set up to protect the public after the wall became unstable.
Bosses at Tendring Council blamed arctic weather conditions earlier this year for causing the damage.
Cabinet spokesman Carlo Guglielmi said: “The problem was spotted after the heavy snow this winter. The large fall melted and the water has seeped through affecting the stability of the structure.”
The damage has been caused to a section of wall between Pier Gap and the Atlanta cafe. It helps hold up the banking below the ladies' toilets.
The area has now been cordoned off with fencing and danger signs.
Experts are being brought in to carry out investigations to see what repairs are needed.
