Frinton model is crowned Miss Commonwealth

A FRINTON model has used her brains and beauty to be named Miss Commonwealth 2009.

Joanna Peagram beat hundreds of contestants hailing from more than 50 nations to be named Miss Commonwealth International at the weekend.

The 22-year-old wowed the judges with her appearance on the catwalk wearing sports, casual and evening wear, after first representing England by wearing a red dress complete with flashing England sash and badge.

Miss Peagram, who now lives on Colchester’s Solus estate, was also quizzed on her knowledge of the Commonwealth of Nations, and demonstrated her interest in good causes after raising thousands of pounds in the last few years.

Afterwards, she said she was looking forward to representing England across the Commonwealth while raising money for charity at the same time.

“It was brilliant,” she said. “It was one of the best experiences of my life.

“I want to thank everyone for their support.

“It was a great opportunity to represent my country.

“A lot of people see girls going into pageants as just being good looking but you have to be able to have more than that,” she added.

“It’s all about charity work on this particular one."
