FUNDING for much-needed road improvements in a seaside resort may have been slashed.
Residents have been campaigning for years for work to be done on unmade roads in Brooklands, Jaywick.
They celebrated the news of planned works on Brooklands Gardens West in June, when the Jaywick Strategic Leadership Group in June said it would improve the road up to the same standard as nearby Brooklands Gardens East.
But rumours are now spreading that the roadworks have been cut, due to a lack of funding.
One resident said: “It is another broken promise.”
Essex County Council, which leads the JSLG, refused to deny the claims.
Nicola Spicer, a spokesman for Essex County Council could not confirm whether the project was still going ahead.
She said: “Improvements across all of Jaywick are a priority for us.
“At the moment we are identifying the most important areas for investment and focusing on those.
“This is not about removing funding from Jaywick but around using it wisely in areas that need it urgently.”
