A BEACH blitz to clean up a popular seafront has been hailed as a success.
A six-week cleaning programme on Jaywick beach is making positive changes to the area and about 300 dog dirt bags have been handed out to residents.
Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said the campaign has been welcomed and was generally successful.
He said: “There has been a general improvement to open spaces and green areas, work has been carried out to remove derelict properties and efforts have taken place to clean-up Jaywick beach.”
Free dog fouling bags to encourage residents to keep the beach clean have been popular.
“The first batch of around 200 bags went very quickly and we are well into the second batch of bags but there are still plenty that can be collected from the offices in Lotus Way,” said Mr Brown.
The bags are available from neighbourhood wardens, dog wardens and from the Jaywick Strategic Leadership Group offices in Lotus Way, Jaywick, as part of the push to try to get dog owners to clear up after their pets, especially on beaches.
The blitz formed part of a kick start to the Clean Up Jaywick campaign, run by the Gazette and the JSLG, to encourage people to keep the popular beach dog dirt free.
The beach cleaning will end at the end of September but efforts will continue to deal with other issues such as fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour and derelict properties.
Mr Brown said: “This is very much an on-going initiative.”
