Vessels from Clacton and Walton, as well as a rescue helicopter from Belgium, helped recover the yachtsmen from their yacht, Rhubarb.
“The people were recovered on to the lifeboats although the vessel eventually sank,” said a spokesman for Walton-based Thames Coastguard.
The incident happened at about 1.10pm on Saturday.
Clacton Coastguard, the Clacton RNLI lifeboats, as well as the Essex Police marine unit and helicopter, were also involved in the search for a missing man from Jaywick at 3.35pm.
