A SHARK has given birth to three young at a Clacton aquarium.
The female Starry Smooth Hound shark, which was caught off Clacton Pier about two months ago, and passed on to the pier's aquarium, turned out to be expecting little ones.
The three young sharks were born Sunday afternoon.
They are just eight inches long, compared with their mum, who is around three-four foot long. But Paul Nash, the Sea Aquarium's manager said he expects the newborns to grow to a length of about five foot.
He said: “It is fantastic to see. They are an absolute replica of the mum but only eight inches long.
“We are giving them little cut-up prawns and squid.”
He added that the aquarium plan to keep all the newborns, which are already proving a big hit with visitors.
