Frinton: Youngsters caught short

YOUNGSTERS caught short in a seaside town will be forced to pay to pee at a new £500,000 toilet block.

Calls have made for attendants at Frinton's new public loos in Connaught Avenue to be more lenient after an eight-year-old boy was refused entry because he has no money with him.

But Frinton and Walton Town Council said it wants everybody using the loo to pay the 20 pence fee.

Frinton councillor David Evans told the town council the boy's mother said the youngster was forced to relieve himself in a nearby bush because he did not have the money with him to pay to use the facility.

Mr Evans asked the town council whether it would call on Tendring Council to give its attendants a level of discretion when charging people to use the facility.

"Maybe we could ask Tendring Council to consider allowing their attendant to have more discretion with people who are caught short with no money on them," he said.

But the town council said there should not be any exceptions.

David Lines said: "An extensive consultation took place on this and there was support for charging and we can't go back on that.

"To go back on that now would be ridiculous."
