POLICE need help to identify two men in connection with an assault on a teenager which left him with serious head injuries.
The 18-year-old had been involved in a minor altercation with the pair outside the Quality Diner on Rosemary Road in Clacton at 1am last Wednesday.
He was then assaulted in an unprovoked attack by one of the men, who punched him to the head and then fell on top of him.
The other male was involved in a fight with two others before both men ran off, leaving the victim unconscious.
He is now described as improving slowly in a specialist unit at Queen's Hospital in Romford, with his parents at his side.
Witnesses have described the first man as aged between 23 and 24 with piercing blue or green eyes.
He was of muscular build, standing between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall, wearing a light coloured baseball cap.
They also say he was wearing a dark hooded jumper under a lighter top which had a large 74 printed on it.
He wore paint splattered trousers.
The second man was aged between 35 and 40, of medium build and around 5ft 6ins.
His short dark hair was receding and he had a small bald patch at the back of his head, and was wearing a black jacket.
The pair are described as having Northern accents, possibly from Yorkshire, and they were wearing clothes which gave the impression that they are in the building or decorating trade.
It is possible that they are working in the Clacton area and staying in bed and breakfast accommodation.
In addition, it is known that they went to Tom Peppers earlier in the evening.
DI Roy Clark of Clacton CID said: "I want to find these two men, and would like people to look at these good descriptions and see if they can identify them.
"They may be working for contractors or involved in building work."
He added: "The victim has very serious injuries and we will be unable to speak to him until his condition improves."
A 35-year-old man arrested earlier this week in connection with the incident has been cleared of any involvement.
Anyone with information is asked to contact CID at Clacton Police Station on 01255 221312.
If you are reluctant to speak to police, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
