FRINTON Cricket Club's Kyran Young and Sam Brynes are stepping down from their roles as captains.

Young skippered the side in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League while fellow Australian Brynes led the second team in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

However, the club are now looking to replace both as they have announced their intention to step down.

Frinton cricket committee chairman John Parke thanked both for their contribution and hopes they remain among the playing squad at Ashlyns Road.

"Both are staying as players, as we understand it, and, as a club, we're thankful to both for their contributions as captains," he said.

"We're looking forward to watching both progress their playing careers.

"But with both KY and Sam stepping stepping down, the club now have a perfect opportunity to start afresh for 2019.

"There won't be any knee-jerk reaction but plenty of careful consideration, as to who the committee proposes to its voting membership as new captains."

Frinton had a disappointing end to the season.

Their Premier League side crashed to a ten-wicket defeat at home to Bury St Edmunds, on Saturday.

And it was also a disappointing afternoon for the Two Counties Championship side, who lost again and suffered relegation into division two.

However, Parke is looking to the future and believes both sides will come back strongly in 2019.

"The club are already looking at a number of new players who wish to play for us next year," he said.

"They will have to buy into the club ethos and convince us they can make a contribution to next season's dual ambitions, which are to mount a challenge for the Premier League title and return our second team to division one of the Two Counties Championship.

"These must be achieved while continuing to develop our pool of talented young players."

Frinton finished fourth in the final Premier League table after their heavy defeat at Ashlyns Road.

It was a similarly depressing tale at Hare Field, as Frinton's second team went down by five wickets against Coggeshall.

They finished second from bottom - in one of the relegation places - and will head down into division two alongside basement boys Elmstead.

"In reality, the defeat to Bury was of no great consequence as we couldn't finish any higher than fourth in the Premier League," added Parke.

"Two dropped catches cost our seconds heavily in their game as the pressure clearly got to them."
