FRINTON In Bloom bosses are hoping fantastic displays of marigolds will help them go for gold in this year’s competition.

Judges from Anglia in Bloom were taken on a five-mile tour of the town’s floral highlights, starting at the Railway Cottage gardens.

The tour included Tendring Technology College’s eco-pond and Frinton County Primary School where pupils put on a colourful show to dazzle judges George Dawson and Brian Thornton.

Frinton in Bloom chairman David Foster said: “One of the highlights was the tour of the primary school where they made a tremendous effort.

“It was colourful and educational. I’m really proud of them – it was a real showstopper.

“The Royal Horticultural Society wants to encourage children to be the future.”

Both schools hope to be in the running for special awards for children.

Judges were also taken o the Jubilee playing field, and the Gun and Crescent gardens.

“It is very colourful in the Crescent Gardens – they were quite taken with it,” said Mr Foster.

“That is the jewel in the crown from our point of view and for Tendring Council, whose gardening team look after it. The marigold heads were three inches across – they were very impressive.”

“The town is looking lovely and the judges seemed most impressed.

“For the wow factor the traders impressed the judges with their vibrant floral displays throughout the Triangle Shopping Centre. I think they were a bit overwhelmed to be honest.”

Frinton has been crowned Anglia In Bloom’s best small town seven times in the last nine years and won eight out of ten gold awards.

It is defending the 2017 best small town title.

Mr Foster said: “We have a good record to live up to and we hope to give them a run for their money.

“It’s not about winning but about achieving the gold standard and making the town look right and I think people have achieved that throughout the year.”

The winners will be announced in Bury St Edmunds in September.
