THE battle was on for a young singing star who made it through to the next round of a top singing show.

Jacob Norton, from Highwoods, Colchester, is starring in the ITV talent show The Voice Kids.

The 14-year-old, who goes to the Gilberd School, won the heart of McFly’s Danny Jones, one of the judges, at the blind auditions.

Jacob then had to perform in a sing-off with two other contestants, Lucy Thomas and J’ci Ama, in the battle round of the programme which was aired last night.

He said: “The experience was really good. It was quite hard going against two girls who had different ranges to me, and they are my friends so it was hard going against them.

“But at the end of the day it’s a competition and we all want to win.

“We got told by Danny that we were the golden three, and we were world class acts.

“He said it was sophisticated and wants us to make a charity single.”

He now hopes to appear in the semi-final, which will be aired on ITV tomorrow night at 7.30pm.
