A NEW scheme to tackle inconsiderate parking by school run mums and dads is set to be launched by parking wardens in north Essex.

The North Essex Parking Partnership has agreed to set aside £50,000 to fund the new scheme following a series of complaints from frustrated residents.

In November, concerns were raised by a grandfather about safety outside Spring Meadow Primary School.

David Smith said flashing 20mph signs in Parkeston Road were being ignored, drivers were at times speeding up to 50mph, and parent parking was also causing a hazard.

Kirby Residents’ Association has also claimed parents are putting youngsters at risk with bad school-run parking outside their village primary school, in Halstead Road.

The parking partnership’s new scheme is called 3PR - representing the three parking rules of care, consideration and caution – and will be launched in September in partnership with local schools.

It said the project will help to deliver a positive message about school parking and provide advice to children, parents and residents on safe and considerate parking.

Any pupil who enters the school parking zone by foot, bicycle or scooter will gets a 3PR token for the class token box.

Each month the class with the most tokens is awarded a cup and at the end of each school year, one class will become the 3PR "champions".

Robert Mitchell, chairman of North Essex Parking Partnership, said: “We’re really excited to be launching the 3PR scheme in north Essex.

“Parking near some schools is often an issue and we’re always looking for ways to improve it and keep children safe.

“The 3PR scheme has been hugely successful in south Essex so we are confident it will motivate families in north Essex to be considerate during the morning drop off, making the roads around schools much safer.”

Primary schools interested in taking part in the scheme should email 3pr@colch.onmicrosoft.com.
