AN URGENT appeal has been launched to rehome a pet dog who struggles so much in kennels that she has started hurting herself.
The National Animal Welfare Trust centre in Little Clacton took in Maisy the Staffordshire bull terrier as she was not getting on with the cats in her new home.
The seven-year-old was previously used for breeding, but got a lucky escape when the family took her in.
Maisy is now staying at the charity’s animal shelter in the Street, but is struggling in a kennel environment and her health is declining rapidly.
Animal care assistant Stacey Sheppard said: “Because Maisy craves being with humans so much, she is really struggling to cope within the kennel environment.
“She hates being alone in her kennel so spends a large proportion of her day in the staff kitchen.
"However, while the staff are working hard sharing the love with all the other animals, she is alone and sad.
“She is becoming so stressed due to being alone, she is actually physically injuring herself.
“When we are with her, Maisy is calm and chilled out, sleeping on one of the sofas or having a cuddle.
“She adores her toys and you can often catch her rolling around on her back like an otter with the toy in her paws. She is also more than happy to entertain herself chewing on a bone and is no bother.”
Maisy needs a home where someone will be in most of the day.
She would also need to be the only pet, but is very happy with dogs outside the home.
Stacey added: “Maisy is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve met. Her tail never stops wagging when she’s with people and all she really wants is love and company.”
